Request Description
We know what the rest of the world thinks: Washington, D.C. is where American dreams are made, destroyed or filibustered for an eternity. As such, the purpose of this assignment is to get you acquainted with the “real” city of D.C. You will start your exploration by choosing a location site in the city that is not commonly portrayed in popular culture. Travel to the site of your choosing and write about it. Next, consider how this site subverts the narrative frequently told about D.C. Perhaps you’ll sit at the fountain in Dupont and people watch. Certainly many of the people you see are wearing suits - but it’s unlikely you’ll see a member of Congress. As you record what you experience, brainstorm what might matter to the local residents of the city.
