The sojourn of civil rights started when some of the first black slaves were proclaimed free by President Abraham Lincoln during the 1800s.
During slavery, many African Americans lived in rural areas in the south and were plagued by a lot of violence and intimidation. Sampson (2004) also states that there was a mass murder of almost four hundred slaves by white people.
Later on, laws of segregation were being enforced on all African Americans. These laws prohibited African Americans from public organizations, hotels and restrooms. Almost all of these places were labeled “white only” (Sampson, 2004). Other rebellious states
