PSY 490 Week 1- Week 5 Discussion Questions & Responses Week 1 DQ1: Reflect on the psychology courses you have taken in this program. Which courses were your favorites? Why? How do you plan to apply the knowledge you have gained from these courses? Response: There were portions of each class that I enjoyed. I think that Learning and Cognition was a favorite as well as Abnormal Psychology. Both of those classes made me wish that our class format was a bit more traditional. In both classes I felt as though I wanted/needed more information than I got and then there was time for. I found a lot of the information in Motivational Processes and Learning and Cognition practical and directly relatable to my everyday life because of the kind of work that I do. I was surprised to find that I found Industrial/ Organizational Psychology enjoyable, I think the name of it put me off, I had never heard of it before. The classes that stressed brain development and talked about behavior and behavior management taught me a lot about the nature of some of the issues that arise at work and I was able to put the knowledge gained to immediate use. In particular some of the information about motivation. So many of my families are driven so clearly by motivation that the knowledge gained helped me to put things into perspective I had not previously considered. DQ2: How is psychology similar to other sciences? How is it different? Be sure to justify your response.
