Navy-Marine Corp Relief Society Organization
This paper will highlight and evaluate a unique organization’s involvement and responsibility to the community. This team will focus on its origins and factors that have influenced the social responsibility strategies of the organization and its social initiative.
The United States Navy and Army have been competitive rivals on the football field, a tradition that began in 1890 and has included annual competitions since 1930. These games accounted for the raising of funds. In 1903, after the traditional time honored games were over, the question came up of what to do with the funds rise by the games. The group suggested that the proceeds should go to help widows and orphans of services colleagues. Although the Navy has won more competitions than the Army (57–49–7), this has not stood in the way of partnering for the better good of the community. In 1904, this was the beginning of collaboration and the creation of the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS).
