I agree and disagree with some of your comments. I definitely believe education influences an employee’s ability to “see the big picture”. I also believe many lower level employees feel less significant due to the way management treats them. Two years ago our facility hired a new vice president. The VP’s major platform has been employee satisfaction and equality. He stresses that every employee is a business person working together in an effort to promote sustainability. This particular individual makes employees feel there is common denominator between management and the blue collar worker. In my opinion, failure to enlighten subordinates is a problem in management. Our company has adopted various programs designed to better inform, educated and include all employees in the business functions. The purpose of these programs is to create a shift in organizational culture. The company wants all employees, not only management, to see the big picture.
