Two laws of exponents are:

1.     In multiplying we are able to add numbers if bases are the same: a2 x a3 = a5.

2.     To raise a power to a power multiply the exponents: (a3)2 = a2 x 3 = a6.

How to simply expression:

First convert the radical expressions to exponential expressions, implement laws of exponents to simplify, and when appropriate convert back to radical notation.

Laws work with radical expressions the same and simply follow the rules of math.

Provide the class with a third expression to simplify that includes rational (fractional) exponents:

            (4a2/3)(2a1/2)
