There are many leadership or management styles and each is essential and quite distinct from the rest. Some of the most common styles include; transactional, transformational, democratic, autocratic, and paternalistic among many others. According to the Chartered Management Institute, (CIM, 2011), it is always advisable for managers to exercise the type of leadership that best suits their personality and the people that their lead. It is by adopting such a type of management style that results in the creation of a good working culture between the leader and the team that they lead, and this ultimately translates into excellent organizational performance (CIM, 2011). Essentially, it is critical to comprehend the various leadership styles and how they differ from each other. Such an understanding is deemed critical in for a leader in helping them choose the style of their liking and that best favors their work place environment. Warwick (1981) points out that only a few managers fully comprehend how the influence of their leadership could affect the performance of their companies and the job satisfaction of their teams. Managers or leaders in an organization can have a far-reaching impact on either the rise or the fall of those whom they lead and the firms that they serve.
