  • From the e-Activity, determine at least three (3) ways in which United States’ businesses can address the adverse effects of sweatshop labor practices. Provide one (1) specific example of each way that you have just determined to support your response.

US companies can address the effects of sweatshops in many ways: 1. Develop a system of monitoring and remediation. Nike issued a Code of Conduct to its suppliers around the world. The company set standards for wages, benefits, work environment, saftey and health.  Nike performs regular inspections to make sure these guidelines are followed  2. Avoid doing business with sweatshops altogether.  Disney ordered an investigation into the working conditions of 2 of it's China suppliers. When these 2 companies did not cooperate, Disney stopped doing business with them. 3. Research and Investing. Many well known US companies are making an effort to reduce sweatshop production by researching the suppliers' work policies and  spending money to improve working conditions along their supply chains.

The US should regulate the global workforce of the United States corporations. Better worker rights can lead to higher productivity growth which leads to faster economic growth.  This can also lead to better income for the workers and the businesses.
