In what organization do you think your leadership style would be most effective? In what organization would it be least effective? Compare and contrast the organizations.

First of all we need to name the four most basic leadership styles. These are the: autocratic, bureaucratic, laissez-faire and democratic. The autocratic style is one in which the manager retains as much power and decision-making authority as possible. The manager does not consult employees, nor are they allowed to give any input. Some studies say that organizations with many autocratic leaders have higher turnover and absenteeism than other organizations. The bureaucratic style is when everything must be done according to procedure or policy. The third style is the laissez-faire style also known as the hands off. It is one in which the manager provides little or no direction and gives employees as much freedom as possible. All authority or power is given to the employees and they must determine goals, make decisions, and resolve problems on their own. The fourth style is the democratic style of leadership also called the participative style as it encourages employees to be a part of the decision making. I identify myself working for an organization where I can exercise and develop my democratic leadership style. I like this style because the democratic manager keeps his or her employees informed about everything that affects their work and shares decision making and problem solving responsibilities. This style requires the leader to be a coach who has the final say, but gathers information from staff members before making a decision. Also it is known that democratic leadership can produce high quality and high quantity work for long periods of time. Many employees like the trust they receive and respond with cooperation, team

When it comes to choosing an organization I believe the best place where I can use my leadership style is any private corporation, for example a clothing company, a manufacturing, etc where I can give the tools to my employees, the information and instructions for them to grow and to be encouraged. I think my leadership would suffer if I were to work in any government or non profits organization. I do know both private and public you need to follow guidelines, procedures, etc. But I believe that in the private sector for example if the company is mine or I am a manager with the power to do so I could encourage my peers, etc. or maybe is that I feel I do not belong to that sector yet because to be a leader I need to follow my heart and what I like. How can you encourage and motivate others to do something you don’t even feel good about. I believe the proper leadership style depends on the situation and not the organization; there are three other factors that also influence which leadership style to use.  The managers background and experience including knowledge, ethics, values, etc.The company’s traditions, values, philosophy and concerns. Lastly how managers supervise employees and their different personalities, etc.
