Sometimes during a project, changes in the scope are going to happen. It is very important for the project manager to plan for any changes that may come up during the project. Sometimes you can’t predict when a change is going to happen, but the project manager needs be aware at all times and adapt to the changes. If the customer wants changes to a specific part of the project, the project manager needs to listen and see how he would handle the change.
After listening to the change from the customer, the project manager needs to figure out how he will change the project and look at both the positive and negative sides to the changes. Of course one must try to provide the customer with the changes they want, but one must also look and see how much the change will affect the overall results of the project. Will these changes increase the budget by a large amount? Will these changes push the completion time by two weeks?
The project manager must work hard to make these changes for the customer and still meet the deadline. The project manager also needs to explain to the customer the details of the changes and how the changes will affect the budget and may extend the time of completion. A change in a project usually means more money and time that will have to go into the project. If the customer is ok with the increase budget and time, then I would implement the changes to the project.
