To help educate a user on the best way to formulate a document style that would be beneficial to them would be to examine some of the more commonly used document formats, the setting in which they are used, and their intended audience. You take this information and help them decide the way they want themselves presented. If their correspondence was of a personal nature, I would recommend the use of colored text, pictures in the text, and possibly the use of windings. If the intended audience is more professional in nature then I would recommend to use of some preformatted templates and themes that are available from microsoft in addition to the styles that are available with Microsoft Word 2007.
To help the user avoid some of the more common problems in their documents, I would have them convert some recently used documents to a similar style and have them reviewed by myself and another objective person. This should enable the user to get fresh opinions about their documents and allow the user to make any changes to the document as needed. I would also ok at some of the documents that the user has received and help to model the document after those documents as well.
