Request Description

Interview one administrator and two teachers within a school organization to determine areas they believe are in need of change. If you are unable to gain access through a local school or district office, you may go to the blog site Edutopia: Latest Blogs on K-12 Education Reform ( and contact administrators and teachers who have been involved in change initiatives at their school sites. Be sure to come up with a list of questions prior to the interview. You might base some of your questions on some of the data findings from the Week One Assignment, “Stage One: Problem Identification.” Examples of questions follow:

  1. What do you think is the most important issue facing this school, and why do you believe it is the issue most in need of attention?
  2. If you could change one thing about the curriculum, what would it be and why?
  3. What are some professional development topics that would most benefit teachers at this school and why?
  4. Why do you think third grade test scores in math are declining?

After conducting your interviews, in a 1000 words paper (double-spaced, not including title and reference pages), describe your findings from the interviews and discuss how they are aligned (or not aligned) with what you found when analyzing school record data for the Week One Assignment. Format your paper as follows:

Part One
Description of how you collected and analyzed your interview data

  • Who did you interview? (You may use pseudonyms to protect the identity of the interviewees.) Did you place answers into categories to identify emerging patterns and themes? How did you analyze the data to compare and contrast responses?

Part Two
Description of interview findings

  • Be sure to describe what you found (i.e., the results of your analysis of the data) as opposed to listing the questions and responses. For example, all of the interviewees might express concern over the need for more training, but also express that they are working with a small budget that cannot fund these trainings. Teachers may express      certain needs that the administrator does not address, etc.

Part Three
Analysis of student record data and interview findings

  • In this section you should compare and contrast your findings from all data sets. For example, you may have found that teachers express a need for more training in a specific area. Additionally, your analysis of data for the Week One Assignment may have found that same area to be deficient. This would confirm a need to address the issue and consider certain avenues for doing so.

Part Four
Identify an instructional and/or curricular issue that needs to be addressed/changed within your school, district, community or other organization in which you are affiliated

  • Support the need for change through the data collected.

Your paper must cite sources both in-text and on a reference page and be formatted per APA style guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center
