In your opinion, what is the best way to deliver policies, procedures, and training to employees working
abroad? How do human resource management (HRM) policies differ for multinational companies
compared with single-nation companies? How do training and development programs differ for
multinational organizations compared with single-nation companies? Explain your answer.

I think the best way to deliver policies, procedures and training to employees working abroad is through
electronic means such as email, company intranet, video conferences, and when absolutely necessary,
in person instruction.

The human resource management policies of multinational companies are different from that of single-
nation companies in many ways. Firstly, the HRM policies of multinational companies are more country
specific and the general policies are also constructed by keeping in mind that they must not offend
people of any nation in which the company is operating. The policies of single-nation companies are
focused around their domestic requirements. Secondly, the HRM policies of multinational companies
also contain components like expatriate policy, diversity management policy, labor policies which can
lead to amicable relations all over the world. Single-nation companies do not have the same policy
requirements.

The training and development programs for multinational companies are more diverse in nature and
include topics like language training, cross-cultural communication training, cultural sensitivity related
training, training on rules and procedures in other nations. “Cross-cultural training is, of course, much
more than language training. It should provide an appreciation of the new culture, including details of its
history and folklore, economy, politics (both internal and its relations with the United States), religion,
social climate, and business practices” (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007, p. 221).
