The E codes are poisoning and external injuries such as falls, accidental poisoning and burns. They are similar because they both use alphanumeric numbers. They differ in the V codes deal with more of the reason for the visit, it covers personal medical history, counseling, examinations, and follow ups, where E codes deal more with accidents such as burns, poisoning codes, they also are effective for the payer for trauma to determine what insurance will pay, and the payer's compensation claims. To streamline the V and E codes by keeping them basic, clear and concise for easier filing and records to be read in case of problems or claims, and for set standards for the coding process so the recorder can understand the V and E codes to make them more accurate for the insurance companies to bill correctly to have less complaints of overcharging.
