UNICEF is The United Nation Children’s Fund; it was created in the year of 1946 to help children in times where the war torn apart their homes. These locations were Europe, China and the Middle East. In 1947, UNICEF USA was founded, one year after UNICEF, to support UNICEF's lifesaving work for children. (UNICEF 2019) This is an important group that makes a big difference in the world. But how do you ask? This group, organization rather works as an effort to raise awareness towards early childhood development, vaccines and AIDS. This organization helps project awareness towards child abuse, and child violence to name a few. UNICEF began in the aftermath of World War II, supplying dried milk, nutritional supplements, medicines, immunizations and other urgent assistance to help starving and ill children in Europe, the Middle East and China. Today UNICEF works in more than 190 countries and territories to save and improve children's lives. (UNICEF, 2019)
UNICEF runs and relies mostly on voluntary donations, so it does not have to take from the United Nation budget. UNICEF aids children and families that have been struck by natural disasters. According to UNICEF, “UNICEF responds in emergencies to protect the rights of children. In coordination with United Nation partners and humanitarian agencies, UNICEF makes its unique facilities for rapid response available to its partners to relieve the suffering of children and those who provide their care.” (UNICEF, 2019) With the help of the government and non-governmental organizations UNICEF can save and protect children in the most vulnerable state. UNICEF’s organization works diligently to ensure child rights, providing health care, immunizations, nutrition, access to safe water and sanitation services, basic education, protection and emergency relief.

Compassion International is an NGO near and dear to my heart. I have been a Compassion sponsor for almost twenty years and have sponsored three different children. Founded in 1952 and originally called The Everett Swanson Evangelistic Association, Compassion international has grown to an international organization serving 25 countries. Their Colorado based headquarters works to fulfill the mission to “release children from poverty in Jesus’ name” (“What We Do”, n.d.). When a sponsor selects a child, the sponsorship money is given to support the ministry that partners with local churches of various international communities to provide food, clothing, shelter, education, and the gospe
