Required:

Please read the following case study from the Markkala Center for Applied Ethics:

Here is what really happened:

http://www.scu.edu/ethics/dialogue/candc/cases/supplier_comments.html

In a 5-7 page paper, please address the following:

1) Apply Steps A through D of the Utility Test to the above case. Be sure that you carefully document each step in the process.

2) Choose one of the following five tests: Rights Test, Exceptions Test, Choices Test, Justice Test, or the Common Good Test. Click here: http://ethicsops.com/EthicsTestsLinks.aspx.

. Now, apply the test you’ve chosen to the above case. In your paper, be sure that you have fully written to each step in the test you have selected.

3) Compare and contrast the results you have obtained from the Utility Test (#1 above) and your choice of the five tests (#2 above).

4) Which approach – the Utility Test (#1 above) or the test you chose (#2 above) is most informative in terms of your evaluation of the Case? Why?

Expectations:

1) Your paper will be graded on the accuracy to which you apply the Utility Test and your choice of the five tests to the case. I also want to see that you have logically and critically compared and contrasted the results from the two tests, and your ability to assess which of the tests best informs the Case.

2) Please do not simply restate the facts of the Case. Instead, be sure to analyze! Critical analysis is key at the graduate level!

3) Remember to follow the Well-Written Paper guidelines. To this extent, the Module 2 Case will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  • Precision - Does the paper address the question(s) or task(s) in full?
  • Depth - Does the paper address all elements of the topic in sufficient depth?
  • Critical thinking – Are the concepts of this module applied accurately, logically, and relevantly?
  • Organization - Is the paper organized in a coherent and systematic manner? Are headings included as required?
  • Clarity - Is the writing clear and the concepts articulated properly?
  • Referencing (citations and references) - Does the paper use citations and quotation marks where appropriate? Are all references listed in the bibliography used and referred to via citation?
