1.  Describe the context of the observed classroom (demographics, instruction, learning activity):

            Lorraine Griego - The demographics of the students in the classroom are a multicultural 1st grade class of 16-20 students.  The seating is arranged in a U shape with a group seating in the middle around the front of the classroom.  The instruction used in the classroom is large group instruction coupled with partner interactions, small group learning, modeling and class participation. She used a variety of learning activities that included choral responses, think-pair-share and small group learning.

 

            Lorraine Griego - The demographics of the students in the classroom are a multicultural 6th grade class of 16-20 students.  The seating is arranged in rows of 4 students each facing the front of the classroom.  The instruction used in the classroom is large group direct instruction coupled with partner interactions and whole group response.  The lesson is on literacy and answering questions.

 

            Dana Sullivan - The demographics of the students in the classroom are a multicultural 6th grade class of 16-20 students.  The seating arrangement for the lesson was having the students set on the floor around the teacher.  The instruction used in the classroom is large group direct instruction.  She used a variety of learning activities that included choral responses, small group learning, and partner interactions.  The lesson is on reading a thermometer (math and measurement) and related math vocabulary. 

 

            Andrea Carrizo - The demographics of the students in the classroom are a multicultural 6th grade class of 16-20 students.  The seating is arranged in rows of 4 students each facing the front of the classroom.  The instruction used in the classroom is large group direct instruction coupled with partner interactions and whole group response.  The lesson is on pre-reading for information.

 

2.  Identify stages of language acquisition you see evidenced in the classroom. (Be specific in describing language behaviors or expressions that help you determine specific language acquisition stages.)

            Lorraine Griego - Stage III of language acquisitions is observed in this classroom.  Students understand an easy story and are reading short texts.  The students are participating in choral reading and sounding out words phonetically.  All of these behaviors are including in stage III of learning acquisition. 

 

Lorraine Griego - Stage IV of language acquisitions is observed in this classroom.  Students understand compl
