Solution Description

Choose one of the following scenarios and discuss strategies for meeting the challenge. How will you respectfully address the scenarios presented?

 

The scenario I have chosen is:  addressing a student who refuses to interact with others because he/she is culturally/ethnically different from others.  Why the student is refusing to interact is as important, or perhaps more important than the refusal.  As with any child, there is always a reason for acting out or displaying deviant behavior and it is up to the teacher to discover the why.  To learn anything there must be a conversation and the best answers come from the students themselves; also talking with the parents to determine whether or not this is normal behavior or if it is something that is out of the norm.  Teachers may have to look at themselves to see if they are fostering biases that may be causing the behavior.
