Using drama in the ELL classrooms
When teachers start using role-plays in the classroom this adds variety, a change of pace and opportunities for a lot of language production. According to Peregoy, (2013) this is also a very highly motivating [ and engaging] way for students to process and present information they have studied” (p. 144). Another reason why teacher incorporate drama in the classrooms is to have real life practice or real situations created for our students.
Using drama in the lesson will chunk the material to make the content more accessible for our ELL students. The idea behind this is breaking content into smaller, more manageable units that offer comprehensible input to our ELL students (Porter & Bruett, 2009).
