Two characteristics that competent teachers possess and how it can relate to student learning are possessing a high level of content knowledge, and highly efficient in responding to students and making rapid teaching decisions. In our text, table 1.3 shows several examples of characteristics shared by expert teachers. I chose these specific examples because as teachers we must be able to understand, show, and apply content knowledge to all areas in any learning environment. Teachers must be highly efficient and must have different instructional strategies that can be utilized in classrooms when teaching students. In my opinion, I feel that students do not learn all the same way. Providing meaningful insight and different strategies will help students learn at their own pace and help students engage in self-direct learning experiences.
