IT technologies are growing rapidly in every sector of IT organizations, one such technology is Virtualization. This is the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, such as an operating system, a server, a storage device or network resources technology (Rouse et al., 2010). Virtualization increases efficiency in a data center by enabling today's servers to run multiple operating systems and applications. Workloads can get deployed faster, performance and availability increases and operations become automated, resulting in IT that's simpler to manage and less costly to own and operate.
The purpose of this research paper is compare and contrasts the top three brands of virtualization software available. I will also examine the major pros and major cons of each of the top three software packages available. I will make a recommendation on the virtualization software that I feel is most appropriate for the organization providing a rationale for my recommendation. The second part of this paper is where I will explore the major advantages and major disadvantages that the organization I have chosen may experience when using virtualization software. Give your opinion on whether or not you believe virtualization software is the right fit for your chosen company. Provide a rationale for your response. The main reason why most organizations are moving towards virtualization is because of consolidations, you can stretch the server to its limits by installing various types of software on one piece of hardware. Another reason is that because virtualizations leads to green technology, virtual machines are more energy efficient than a dedicated server. As an alternative to having multiple dedicated servers, you can have lots of virtual servers, which help in saving energy and reducing operation cost.
