Week Eight Assignment
Probation and Parole are often thought to be the same thing, this is not so. Parole is what an inmate is one once released from prison after serving a sentence of a year or more. Probation on the other hand is what is generally given if the offender is under the age of 17. Probation allows the offender to still their everyday life as long as they check in with their probation officer at the given times and continue to stay out of trouble. If this is done and the offender does not relapse than at the of the probation time the offender will not have to go to prison, if the offender does relapse and continues to get in trouble he or she will be spending the rest of their sentence in prison (Harter, 1999)...
