First mover advantage offers many potential benefits. Both Microsoft and Intel gained an advantage over its potential rivals by capturing market share much more easily without having to worry about rivals trying to capture the same customers. Both companies realized early on that the future demand of computing was increasing and there weren’t many competitors in the industry.
If we were to survey the question, “Who is the premier microprocessor manufacturer?” I think most would vote Intel without doubt. Intel designed the technology that really set the foundation for the computer industry before others even thought about the computing era.
