Body image is an adolescent's subjective perception of their physical appearance. The perception of their physical body may, in fact, be quite different from their objective physical condition. There are several factors that may contribute to the development of an adolescent's negative or positive self-image. These factors can include: family, friends, and media. The "perfect body" that is portrayed on television and in advertising can be a false image. Also, the numerous physical and hormonal changes that occur during puberty may heavily contribute to the development of an adolescent's negative body image.
