Request Description

·         Identify the components of a supply chain. What is the function of supply chain management (SCM)? When problems arise along the supply chain, how may SCM be used to resolve these problems?

Response:

The SCM Components are the third element of the four-square circulation framework. Adding more management components or increasing each component may increase the level of integration of the business process link. For example, the components of UPS and their supply chain are Transportation and Freight, Logistics, International Trade, Consulting Services, and Industry Solutions. (http://www.ups-scs.com/about/)

The purpose of SCM is to minimize costs for the entire supply chain. They have to optimize the chain and minimize costs for each component.

Main Problems that can arise are that one component has the profound effect of driving up costs. SCM should be able to reduce the so called Bullwhip Effect by reducing lead times, or allowing information to flow between supply chains, for example.
