An example of classical conditioning:

I used to be a drinker and I still get the desire to have a drink when my friends and colleagues are around and indulging themselves. An issue I have is that I am a big sports fan, and I have always ended up watching games at the local bar. I have been accustomed to having a few drinks while watching the game; it always made it a bit more exciting for me. I find that it is very challenging for me to condition myself to not drink in such a circumstance. Whenever I have a desire to drink, I experience an unconditioned stimulus due to the fact that a reaction is occurring while seeing other people drink. As dim-witted as it may sound, I also feel as though I will disappoint others if I do not show that I am clean and organized.  As such, the stimulus is my cleanliness and organization, the response is ensuring that my personal environment is clean and organized, and the reinforcer is maintaining my elevated levels of cleanliness and organization.

I feel as though I have a preference towards learning through operant conditioning due to the fact that it is not as compulsory as the other option. Even though my parents forced me to be extremely clean and organized while growing up, I now have the decision to keep it up or not; I am in the driver’s seat. It just happens to be that I decided to continue to mainta
