Analysis of Dance Styles

All forms of dance styles use some type of compositional element (line, form, and repetition) during the performance.  The performer’s own body is the main component used during the performance, but costumes, stage props, lighting, and music enhance the performance and the audience’s experience.  There are many forms of dance styles, but here is a comparison of a few different known styles and how the performers use line, form, and repetition to represent their form of art.

Dance Styles

Ballet

Ballet is a form of classical or formal dance that relies on a set of prescribed movements and actions (Sporre, 2011).  Ballet requires intense theatrical dance presentations that consist of solo dancers, duets, and choruses (Sporre, 2011).  This paper will provide the reader with two examples of ballet, Contemporary ballet and Classical ballet.
