Nursing Theorist

In 1962, as a graduate student mentoring with Dorothy E. Johnson, Sister Callista Roy began work on defining a nursing model that encompassed her theological beliefs, in unity, with: her experiences in pediatric nursing where she witnessed “the resilience of the human body” (Roy, 2009, p.25); its ability to adapt to physiological changes, environmental stimuli, and how that stimulus affects the outcome of a person to cope with acute or chronic illness (Parker, 1993). Roy developed her model and in 1970 it was implemented as the framework of the Baccalaureate nursing curriculum at Mount St. Mary’s College in California (Roy, 2009).
