Supply chain activities include farming, refining, design, manufacturing, packaging and transportation.  The factors in the supply chain process include the product manufacturer, the wholesaler, the distributor and the retailer. Companies utilize supply chain management to optimize efficiency, reduce costs, reduce environmental footprint and also to increase sustainability and support industries (such as in fair trade products).
