The weekly message board work asks students to explain what the consequences should be for students who plagiarize at the university level. Students are asked to justify their answers.

The answer should consist of a well-developed paragraph, which means your first sentence should answer the question(s) (i.e. topic sentence), and the following sentences should support the topic sentence. The paragraph should be unified and coherent with specific supporting details or examples from the story. The sentences should be clear, concise, and arranged in a logical order. Transitions, pronouns, and repetition should be used to provide coherence.

Here is an example of one of the other classmate.

Ex. Academic plagiarism is an offence that takes place when a student utilizes pieces of work from another author and tries to pass it off as his or her own, without citing the material and original author. Unfortunately, in today's digital society, this is a practice that happens quite often. There should be repercussions for students who take part in this type of offence. Initially there should be an academic warning.  This minimal repercussion should be allowed because a student may not have realized that he or she forgot to cite a piece of material within their assignment. Similarly, if the student is cognizant of the offence that he or she is committing, this academic warning should subsequently scare and deter the offender from committing the practice again in the future. The second plagiarism offence should be addressed with an official academic write up with an incomplete grade for the plagiarized assignment. Finally, the next and final offence should be followed up with an "Incomplete" grade and automatic withdrawal from the class. Plagiarism is an offensive that is the equivalent of stealing. There should be no excuse for stealing and it should not be a practice that is allowed. If there are repercussions for the cognizant stealing outside of the academic environment, then there should be repercussions in the academic setting as well. Students need to learn now that this practice is unacceptable. The only way to instill plagiarism as being unacceptable and immoral is to punish the offender.
