Legalese is defined as “the language used by lawyers that is difficult for most people to understand; legal jargon.” (Merriam-Webster, 2015). Please read the article, Language Ideology and the Plain-Language Movement: How Straight-Talkers Sell Linguistic Myths, by Soha Turfler. Do you agree with the opinions expressed in the article? Why? Also, do some research and find a sentence that you think is written in legalese and rewrite it in plain English. Make sure you include the original sentence in your post as well as your revised version. In your responses to other students’ posts, do you think that your classmates’ revised sentence is more effective than the original? Does it relay the same message, or is it clearer? How would you re-word it plain English and why?
