As a culmination of your written assignments from Weeks One through Four, you will write an eight- to ten-page assessment report and plan. The report will be based on a SALT transcribed language sample that is available to you in in the Required Resources section, under Additional Resource.
Write a one- to two-page descriptive assessment report of the language sample. Your report should include a summary of the child’s language skills in the various domains (phonology, morphology, semantics, syntax, pragmatics, and narrative/story grammar), as it can be discerned from the information provided to you. Cite specific examples from the language sample to support your conclusions.
Based on the areas of need identified in the language sample, write a one- to two-page assessment plan. Describe the informal and formal assessments that you will perform and include a rationale for each one.
Select two of the areas of need that you identified in the descriptive report, and create a two- to three-page lesson plan for each skill following the functional model presented in Language Disorders: A Functional Approach to Assessment and Intervention. Within each lesson plan, describe at least two activities to target your selected skill, and include information regarding the context of elicitation, participants, and the type and amount of feedback that will be provided. Identify at least five training targets for each activity. Justify your selections by discussing how the activities will foster generalization to functional communication outside of the therapy setting. Briefly discuss additional considerations that you would take into account if the child was from a culturally and linguistically diverse background as well as any related ethical considerations.
Create a one-page handout that you could provide to the child’s classroom teachers, parents, and/or caregivers explaining what they can do to facilitate language growth and learning.
Demonstrate the principles of evidence-based practice by citing at least three professional resources aside from Language Disorders: A Functional Approach to Assessment and Intervention.
